Relief Society ~ October 1, 1877

Meeting Held November the 14th, 1877.

Opened with singing: "Come All the Saints Who Dwell Who Dwell On Earth".

Prayer by Sister Madsen.

Sister Morrison addressed the Sisters. Felt glad to meet again after being absent for .. meetings and said reason why. Testified that her mind and thoughts were with the Sisters all the time when they meet; and have the same interest in the Society as she always had.  She wished for the sisters to be faithful and prayerful in everything they undertake. Wished that they should not encourage back biting and speaking of another and said there was ever so much fault finding about our Society.  We have always tried to do the best we know how.  She begged the Sisters in their visiting  positions to encourage the Sisters to come to meeting and to see and hear what was going on.  She also spoke a good deal about our young ladies too. Said that they will be organized again for the fourth time and hoped for its success.

A day was appointed for a quilting bee for the temple and arrangements were made for the poor.  More teachers were appointed to assist for the winter season and the first business would be for wheat to be gathered ......  The question was asked if the wheat  in the office should be locked up for itself, but every lady seemed to be satisfied the way it was.

Sister Madsen translated to the Sisters all that was said in her language.

Sister Peel felt well to be together with the Sisters and her interest was, like all the time, for the prosperity of the Society and wished for the Sisters to take a life interest in the Society and not only give, but to come to the meeting to be sure all would be benefited by.

Sister Simpson felt well to meet with the Sisters and her interest said the general expression, but a true one was interested in everything which was said, and felt greatly benefited to come to Meeting.

Closed with singing and prayer.

Beloved Sisters,

The painful intelligence has reached us this afternoon of the decease of your beloved husband and father and our much respected President Brother Brigham.

He has run his race and finished his course and gained for himself an inheritance among the Gods

Dear Sisters and children, we the sisters of Mt.Pleasant do most deeply sympathize with you all under this your most trying bereavement. and pray God our Heavenly Father that you may receive strength equal to the affliction you have been called upon to pass through.

Brother Brigham has closed his career with honor and dignity.  And like a stock of corn fully ripe has laid down to account a glorious resurrection.

May we who are here behind, try to adhere to his counsels and teachings and strive to emulate his example.  And may our whole future be spent in meekness and humility that when our turn comes to pass behind the veil it may be said to us, as to him "Well done good and faithful servants, enter then into the joy of thy Lord."

Meeting Held In Social Hall July 8, 1877

Meeting held in Social Hall July 8, 1877

Opened with singing and prayer by Sister Johansen. Minutes of former meeting was read and accepted.
Sister Morrison talked considerably about the privileges we as a people enjoyed here in these mountains and have greatly blessed we were in being able to live here in peace and tranquility and worship God according to the dictates of our own consciences without fear of molestation.

While many of the nations of the earth there was nothing but tumult and strife failing them with  fear.  But hear we had it in our power to enjoy the Spirit of the Lord, and do the will of God and keep his commandments as we desire so to do.  This was our privilege and the fault would be ours if we did not hold onto it.  Sister Morrison also talked about the Sisters voting to sustain and supply the Mt. Pleasant Home in Manti with Sisters to cook for the men and hoped they would consider that vote as binding as any other covenant that they made, and do their best to sustain the same, that we ought not to forget the blessings to be derived from having our temple right in our own county and do all that lay in our power to help it along in our humble way.  And she said that those that did so in honesty of heart would receive blessings more than they would be able to contain.

Bro. Jacob said he had been to Manti and heard the teachings of President Young and with great satisfaction; that he urged the necessity of us being a self-sustaining people and that the time was not distant when we would realize it to its fullest extent, and the sooner we could get machinery in our midst and have all kinds of Home Industry carried on amongst us the better it would be for this people.

President Young also said Polygamy was one of the greatest principles in this church and that we ought to strive to enjoy peace and good will one towards another and live unitedly, pray with each other and for each other and by so doing we would gain power over the power of darkness and live in full enjoyment of every principle of the Gospel.

Sister Peel also spoke in her own language and said she felt well

The meeting closed with singing and prayer by Jacob Christensen.
